Summary
BSEE investigates a drill-pipe joint falling 58 feet during laydown on Transocean Deepwater Atlas. A hydraulic leak prevented full gripping, while screen-only verification and an obstructed view contributed. Personnel remained outside the drop zone and no injuries occurred. Planned changes include camera confirmation, Floorhand confirmation and unintended-movement alarm feedback.
