Summary
An investigation examines a compressor fire following gas escape from an improperly installed thermal detector. Inadequately supported discharge piping contributed additional vibration. The ignition source remained undetermined. Gas detection triggered compressor shutdown, operators initiated emergency shutdown, and water monitors and hoses extinguished the fire. Inspectors identified another improperly installed detector.
